Building a relationship with food is like a dance, if you don’t work with your partner there is a likely chance you will end up stepping on your partner’s toes. Similarly with nutrition, if you find yourself not fueling your body properly you may notice uncomfortable symptoms or difficulty reaching your goals. However, the more you practice and work as a team it becomes that much easier to match the steps and build a symbiotic relationship.

As you build your relationship with food it is important to remember that our bodies flourish when we have balance. Each nutrient has a specific function to fulfill, similar to a key in a lock. If we remove carbohydrates, or misplace this specific key, it becomes challenging to fuel the brain properly. The body is an efficient machine, it will try to do what it can and utilize other forms of energy, similar to picking a lock, but it will not be as efficient and you may feel uncomfortable symptoms that follow. For example, have you noticed that when removing carbohydrates from your diet, headache and brain fog sets in? This is the body’s way of signaling that ‘something is missing’. Therefore, instead of removing a component, shift your attention to adding and balancing nutrient components to help make your relationship with food sustainable.

Whichever dance you choose to partake in, know that you do not have to learn this skill on your own. Learning how to implement positive behavior change with your nutrition can be fun, and at Heale Medical we have Health Care Practitioners who want to provide you with the tools to help support your lifestyle.
